practice of aikido

Remember that you are a part of the universe. To ruin your life or waste it is to ruin a piece of the universe. With your birth you hold the key that opens the door to heaven. The most important duty in each person's life is to use that key and to make his or her life a manifestation of the heaven that lies within our power to create. -Mitsugi Saotome

Thanks to Ang Bandang Shirley for the song "Larong Kalye" in my podcast. Thanks to Red for taking the video.

kawayan autograph

I was leafing through Kawayan 1991, my high school yearbook, and came across an autograph by my best friend at the time, Tricia C. When we were in middle school, she showed me a heart-shaped locket that was sealed with a surgical tape- inside the locket was the picture of a boy who broke her heart. Later on, I saw her blossom into a confident and beautiful woman who, in turn, would break many hearts. Trish is now happily married with children- her firstborn Justin is my godson.

Here we are in our French classroom.

Excerpts of her 1991 yearbook message are in my podcast. Trish, can you hear the old song I'm playing the background?

dream of '92

My first dream of the year transported me to the Collegian years, sometime between 1991 and 1997. Here we are in our Baguio writers' workshop during the sem break of 1996.

Thanks to former Kulê colleague Isha for the song "1992" in my podcast this week.

blog portal

If you are a dreamer, come in

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

A Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer,

If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire

For we have some flax-golden tales to spin

Come in!

Come in!
